By Jerry W. Kram
The Parshall Braves Girls Basketball Team has extended its season by taking third place in the District 15 Girls Basketball Tournament that will start in Watford City on Monday.
The Braves secured their spot in the regionals with two dominating performances over Mandaree and North Shore-Plaza. The only blemish was a nine point loss to the eventual tournament champions, the New Town Eagles. The Braves will face the District 16 #2 seed Ray Jays at 6 p.m. Monday. If they prevail the could be in line for a rematch with the Eagles in the region semifinals on Tuesday if they get past the District 16 #4 seed Kenmare Honkers at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
“My seniors don’t want their season to end,” said Head Coach Dusty Olson. “We want to play Ray. And we would like another crack at Powers Lake too. They beat us by two. We will take what we get and make do with it.”
The Braves drew the Mandaree Warriors in the opening round of the tournament and used an inside game to move on with a 71-50 victory. The Warriors kept the game close early, and only trailed by five at the end of the first quarter, 16-11. But the Braves were led by Sidney Hall’s 14 first half points to add another eight points to their lead in the second quarter. At the half, it was Braves 36, Warriors 23. Peyton Yellow Wolf led the Warriors with 10 first half points.
