Two Fort Berthold boxing clubs proved their talent and their coaching Saturday as they tied for a team title during fights in Cannonball.
The Bob Walsh Boxing Club, Parshall, and the Elite Boxing Club, New Town, hammered away at their opponents on the Standing Rock Reservation, claiming numerous individual wins, which piled up points in a team effort.
For the Elite boxers, Dante Brunelle at 88 pounds, won his match over Pete Dean of Parshall. At 105 pounds, Devin Brunelle won his match over Brett Shields Iron Wing, no community listed. And, Cory Johnson, at 140, won by split decision over Jared Wise Spirit, no community listed.
For the Walsh club, Jaiven Hale, at 67 pounds, beat Frederick Fox of White Shield, Scotty Hale, Parshall, knocked off Tavares Fimbres at 62 pounds, and in a female bout, Savannah Crows Brest, Parshall, won over her teammate Wilhelmia Dickens at 150 pounds. Crows Brest later was awarded the outstanding female boxer award for her effort and Dickens was presented the outstanding junior boxer award, despite her loss.
