Lady Braves keep on track

The Parshall Braves girls basketball team continued its winning ways coming out of the Christmas Break with victories over Divide County and Berthold.
The Braves dominated both ends of the court on Dec. 30 against the Maroons. They jumped out to a 23-9 lead in the first quarter and didn’t look back. Aulora Severance led the team early, scoring eight of her 15 points in the first quarter. Kiara Packineau hit two three point shots in the first half as she scored 14 of her 16 points early.
"We came out and put a lot pressure on the ball in the first quarter," said Head Coach Mervin Packineau. "It worked. We kept up the pressure and the girls stayed out of foul trouble and that helped."
The Braves continued to roll in the second half. Cheyenne Packineau scored 10 of her team leading 24 points in the third quarter of the game. By the end of the game, the Braves had a 30 point victory at 70-40.
"The girls are really looking for each other on the inside," Coach Packineau said. "That helps. Other teams can’t just focus on one girl anymore. The girls are stepping up to help out. When it is working like that, everything is clicking. That’s a good sign for things to come."
The Braves traveled to Berthold Saturday to face the Lady Bombers. The Braves started with a good defense, holding the Bombers to just four points in the first quarter while scoring 12. The offense kicked in with 21 points in the second quarter, expanding led to 33-13 at the half. The Braves kept up the pressure throughout the game and finished with a 67-40 victory.
