When the girls basketball season started last December, nobody expected the Parshall Lady Braves to be fighting for the right to go the state tournament, but that’s exactly how the season shook out.
Behind veteran coach Mervin Packineau, the girls sailed through the District 15 tournament, qualifying for the regional tournament and nearly pulling off a huge upset over the eventual Region 8 winners, the Stanley Blue Jays.
The loss to the Blue Jays was a bittersweet end to a highly successful season that took the Braves right up to the most coveted game in regional tournament play, the championship.
And it was almost an upset as Parshall played against Stanley like a well-oiled machine at times during this major contest.
