The Lady Braves of Parshall can’t be accused of ducking the tough competition. They have three losses in their last five games, but those losses have come at the hands of the first, second and ninth ranked teams in the state.
The Lady Braves posted their 13th win of the season, knocking off the Stanley Blue Jays 56-36 in Stanley on Friday. They came home to face the undefeated and number one ranked Lions of Minot Ryan on Monday. The Lady Braves couldn’t match Ryan’s height and speed and fell 67-40 for just their third loss of the season.
In the first quarter, Minot Ryan got several uncontested layups as their quick passes down the court seemed to catch the Lady Braves off guard.
“They move the ball well and really look for the outlet pass,” said Parshall Coarch Mervin Packineau. “We knew that coming in and a couple of times they caught us off guard. We knew what we were supposed to do, but they run it so well and execute it, they still caught us off guard for the easy layup. There is a reason they are the number one team in the state.”
The Lions built a 12-4 lead early in the quarter but the Lady Braves were able to cut that lead to 17-11 by the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, Ryan’s pair 6’2” players, Hannah Stewart and Gabbie Bohl started to make their presence felt at both ends of the floor. as the Lions stretched their halftime lead to 30-16.
