Lady Braves take another three

By Jerry W. Kram

The Parshall Braves girls basketball team continued their winning ways, taking three games from Trenton, White Shield and previously undefeated Garrison. The Braves now have a record of 11-1 and are ranked sixth in the North Dakota Class B Girls Basketball poll.

The Braves began their latest campaign with a 69-37 trouncing of the White Shield Warriors in White Shield on Thursday. Cheyenne Packineau led all scorers with 26 points, with Kiara Packineau and Michelle Risan both contributing 12. The Braves jumped on the Warriors early and led 30-15 at the half. The Braves played a lot of their reserves in the game and nine girls wound up in the scoring column.

Parshall’s next game on Friday was against a game but overmatched Trenton Tigers squad. Head Coach Mervin Parkineau played his starting five the whole game because while the Tigers never threatened the Braves’ lead, they didn’t go away either. The Tigers were able to stay within a dozen points of the Braves for the entire game, but couldn’t handle the Braves inside game and went down 67-55. Cheyenne Packineau was held to two points in the first quarter, but then caught fire to score 33 points for the game. Kiara Packineau picked up the slack, scoring 16 of her 20 points in the first half.

"We have been trying to get off to good starts and that’s what we did tonight," said Coach Packineau. "Trenton made some adjustments and it stayed even for the rest of the game. We couldn’t break away. They played tremendously well at the end. They made three three’s in the last couple of minutes that kept them in the game."
