The Makoti Mavericks baseball team is looking to hone its skills as the second half of the Legion schedule gets under way.
The Mavericks are around the .500 mark for the season, but only 1-5 in section contests.
Coach Orville Drosdal notes that there is a marked difference from the state-qualifying team of last year to this year’’ squad.
“Although we lost only three players from last year’s section championship team, we lost a lot of pitching, defense, and leadership,” Drosdal said.
Working to get better the final weeks of the season, the coach said that In order to contend the Mavericks must improve on the fundamentals as well as the mental game.
With our youth, we need to eliminate the mental mistakes in order to build confidence and start to play consistent baseball,” he said.
