Parshall falls in opening round

The Parshall Braves’ hard luck continued to the end of the season as a 14 point third quarter lead slipped away and the the Tioga Pirates were able to come back for a four point victory, 74-70, in the first round of the Region 8 Boys Basketball Tournament in Williston.
The first quarter and a half of the game was close, with neither team being able to get a lead of more than one or two points. The Braves began to pull ahead in the closing minutes of the first half and had an eight point lead going into the locker room at the half.
“They ran all sort of offensive sets,” said Braves Coach Dusty Olson. “They were changing defensives every time they had the chance. We had a hard time adjusting. We had a lot of good looks, but we just didn’t capitalize on them. We couldn’t get anything going that second half.”
The Braves came out fast in the third quarter, looking to put away the pesky Pirates. Soon they built up their lead to 14 points, but by the end of the third quarter the Braves lead had slipped to four points. With three minutes to go in the game, Tioga cut the Braves lead to one point and Tioga finally took a one point lead with 2:11 left in the game. With 44 seconds left in the game, the Braves tied the score at 68-68. But the Pirates made the next basket and were able to make some clutch free throws in the waning seconds to complete the 74-70 comeback.
