Parshall’s underdog Lady Braves did it again Tuesday night in the Region 8 Girls Basketball Tournament, stopping the hard-charging Mandaree Lady Warriors 48-43 to move into Thursday night’s title game against the Stanley Blue Jays.
Mandaree took an easy, 45-33 win over Parshall in District 15 action in a game where Mandaree took an early 13-0 lead and were never really threatened. Tuesday’s game in Williston was much different as the Lady Braves kept pace early and throughout the game just 24 hours after taking out District 16 top seed Divide County.
Shanaye and Nicole Packineau led the charge, taking rebounds and scoring points for Parshall as the sometimes beleaugured Lady Warriors stood by. Shanaye led Parshall with 16 on the night, while Nicole added 12. Samantha Risan, Devanee Hale, McKayla Nielsen and Rayessa Odermann also scored for Parshall.
For Mandaree, Desiree Bolman led all scorers with 19, but was the only Mandaree player to reach double figures. Toni Johnson, Audrey Irwin, Kaelani lu and Hailey Lincoln also added production in the losing cause.
The game kind of started out like the district semifinal in that Mandaree took the early lead and was up 15-9 at the end of the first quarter, as opposed to 13-0. The second quarter Tuesday night belonged to Parshall as the Packineau girls got busy, as Parshall took a slight, 24-22 lead into halftime.
