Long-distance runner Kenny Wells picked up where he left off last season.
The defending state champion in the mile and two mile chalked up a pair of victories at the North Dakota State University indoor meet in Fargo last Saturday.
He single handedly landed the Parshall boys a 11th place finish among a field of 22 teams.
Also putting in a tremendous early season performance was Parshall runner Alexis Woods. As the only female Parshall runner, she put Parshall in 17th place out of 23 teams.
“I thought they did really well for their first track meet,” coach Harlan Johnson said.
Wells placed first in the 1,600-meter after winning the battle against Hazen’s Jaaz Catterall. Wells clocked in at 4:49.58 while Catterall was less than 10 seconds behind.
The race was even tighter during the two mile. Wells took the top spot by beating Cody Christ from Barnes County with a time of 10:14.84. The two runners blew past the rest of the field.
He only sent the two state placers to the indoor meet due to the travel and expense involved.
Indoor running is difficult on some athletes since the course requires more laps and tighter corners than most outdoor circuits.
