Parshall takes No. 1 Region 5 seed into playoffs

In one of the most exciting high school football games in recent memory, Parshall came from an early 12-point deficit Tuesday night to overpower the Divide County Maroons, 42-32 and win the regional title.
Down 12-0 in the first quarter, the Braves scored three consecutive touchdowns to take a 24-18 lead into halftime, a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
The game was significant for both teams because not only was the Region 5 title on the line, but the winner will receive a bye in the first round of the playoffs. The Braves finish the season 6-1 in conference action and 6-2 overall.
The hometown Braves actually got off to a slow start as Maroons’ quarterback Tanner Wolter aired it out for two major scores.
Divide County’s Dalyss Hanson scored the first touchdown and the Maroons failed at the two-point conversion. A Parshall fumble caused another q uick touchdown by Junior Evan Bakewell, again they missed the conversion.
With a few changes at the end of the first first quarter, Parshall Senior Jaren Enockson made about a 50-yard run taking the ball straight into the end zone. Senior Cole Hendrickson easily made the two-point conversion, making the score 12-8.
Tightening up the offense early in the second quarter caused a Maroon turnover and insured another Parshall touchdown.
Enockson had an enormous, 70-yard pass play to senior Harrison Zacher earning the Braves a huge first down.
Hendrickson had no problem taking it in for the second touchdown putting the Braves up temporarily 14-12 and giving them the first lead of the game. They successfully got the two points and would keep the lead the rest of the night.
Hanson recovered an onside kick for Divide County, but the Maroons fell short to Parshall’s, or more specifically DJ Nez’ defense causing a turnover. The Brave’s offense then pushed up the field until they were close enough for a tight play that earned Hendrickson his second major score of the night. Enockson took it in for two more and a 24-12 score.
