Parshall’s boys and girls track teams appear to be gaining strength at the right time with the state track meet just a week away.
In their two previous meets, the boys finished fourth and fifth, while the girls finished fifth and sixth to get some serious respect going into the big dance.
In the Velva Last Chance meet held Saturday, the boys were fifth with 55 and the girls sixth with 50. A myriad of Braves athletes scored with the most notable being eighth grader Alexis Woods, who topped everyone in the 800-meter run in 2:24.34 and senior Samantha Risan, who took the 200-meter dash in :26.52.
They were the only girls to take first place in Velva. In the Town Crier meet held in Dickinson last week, Woods broke her own record in the 400, making the one trip around the track in :59.56 to run the second fastest time in North Dakota thus far this season.
Desiree Wells was a winner in the 3200-meter run, taking the distance event in 12:43.90, beating Kayla Casteel of Divide County to help the team to a sixth-place finish with 44.
In Dickinson, Parshall girls were fourth in the 100, fourth in the 200, eighth in the 800,. sixth in the 400 relay and fourth in the 3200 relay. In Velva, the girls finished fourth in the 1600, third in the 3200, fourth in the 400 relay, sixth in the 1600 relay and third in the 3200 relay.
