Parshall whips Stanley for 3rd in Regionals
The Parshall Lady Braves took the lead early in the third place game against the Stanley Blue Jaysin the Region 8 Girls Basketball Tournament at Williston State College and never looked back. It wasn’t a well played game by either team, but the Lady Braves came out on top 53-45.
“It wasn’t a very pretty game, but it was a win,” said Lady Braves Coach Mervyn Packineau. “We struggled at times, especially on defense. For a while, I thought there was a lid on the basket. The lucky thing was they were having just as hard a time scoring.”
Parshall never trailed in the game, but the Lady Braves weren’t able to deliver the knockout punch until late in the fourth quarter. For most of the second half, the Lady Braves would score a couple of baskets to get to an eight point lead, only to have the Blue Jays cut the lead back to four. The seesaw battle continued until the Lady Braves finally built the lead to 10 with about two minutes to go.
“We stepped it up,” Packineau said. “We stepped up our defense. We got the stops when we needed them. We got the layups when we needed them. I’m really happy with the girls. We got third place in a really tough region.”
