Eagles, Braves advance in VB tournament
By Jerry W. Kram
The New Town Eagles and Parshall Braves will both have a shot at making it to the Region 8 Volleyball Tournament next week. Each team has a win and a loss in the double elimination tournament that will select four teams for the region tournament in Ray.
Parshall stumbled out of the gate, dropping the only four set match of the tournament to Williston Trinity Christian. The Braves opened up on the Crusaders in the first set, keeping the score close at 15-14. The Braves reeled off six straight points to take control of the set at 21-15. The Crusaders were able to make up a few points, but the Braves closed out the set 25-18.
The second and third sets were the closest of the tournament. The Braves jumped to an early lead in the second set at 9-4, but the Crusaders came back to tie the game at 12. From then on it was a seesaw battle with neither team gaining an advantage until the Crusaders were able to take a 23-20 lead. The Braves didn’t quit and led the set at 25-24. However, the Crusaders were able to take the last three points for the 27-25 win. The third set was almost a mirror of the second, with the Braves leading 10-6. This time they held onto the lead at 17-13 but the Crusaders tied things up at 18. Trinity won the battle of side outs to take the set 26-24.
