Boys win State Title; Bell is Senior Athlete of The Year
The New Town Eagles boys cross country team is once again North Dakota’s best. Symbria Bell also showed that she is one of the best by earning All State honors for the sixth year in a a row and being named girls Senior Athlete of the Year.
"The boys put together another great team effort to win the State Championship by a wide margin," said Eagles Coach Brian Anderson.
Leading the way for the team score of 45 points were Ryan Wheeling second, Scott Hale fourth, Jalen Chase ninth, Joe Baker 12th, and Chace Hale 18th. Also running well were Terrance Steele 27th, Jaiven Hale 41st, Daniel LeBeau 56th, Isiah Hale 69th, and Mitchell Baker 107th. There were 207 total runners and 35 teams in the boys division. Beulah Hazen was the second place team with a total of 139 points. The top 5 placers from each team are used for the team score and the top 20 finishers in the meet make All-State.
"It was an excellent team effort from a team that had great depth all year with several different runners making up our top 5 for the team score," Anderson said. "They ended up with 5 All-State runners. The boys were also the West Region champions and won 3 other meets during the year. Joe Baker was the lone senior on the team and will be greatly missed as he was a hard worker and earned All State honors the last 2 years."
The Lady Eagles finished in 12th place out of the 37 schools and 209 total runners competing. They had finished in sixth place in the West Region meet and ran well in State. Out of the 8 runners, 5 were running in their first State Meet and were first year runners.
