Nolan Fjeldahl, Makoti, was recently awarded a plaque in honor of 40 years of service to Makoti Legion Babe Ruth baseball.
“I think that there are people who probably deserve this more than I do,” he said.
Fjeldahl started coaching t-ball, Midgets and Babe Ruth baseball in the early 1970s. “You’d go from nine o’clock in the morning and get done at nine o’clock at night,” he said. “The most fun was the little guys. ...I was the one who got the fun out of it, seeing their eyes when they hit a home run or got an out.”
After around eight years of coaching, Fjeldahl was elected Secretary/Treasurer of the league board. “You meet a lot of people,” he said. “It’s been great.”
Fjeldahl has been taking on fewer responsibilities with the league recently due to his health, but he says he isn’t concerned about the league’s future. “I think it’ll be fine,” he said. “I drove through the small towns the other day and saw plenty of young people out riding their bikes.”
