Lady Eagles split, remain even

The New Town Eagles girls basketball team dropped a 85-73 decision to the 13-3 Stanley Blue Jays last week, but bounced back to pick up a District 15 victory over the 12-2 Trenton Tigers 56-43. The victory evened the Eagles season record at 8-8 and gave them a 3-1 record in the district.
The Blue Jays rolled over New Town from the start, scoring 30 points to the Eagles 12 in the first quarter. The first half score was 40-22 in Stanley’s favor. New Town caught fire in the second half, scoring 51 points in the half, but the Blue Jays had 38 points in the half to hold on for the 12 point lead.
"It was the tale of two halves," said Head Coach Damon Brady. "We came out in the second half and started playing like we were supposed to. We just have to come out with no fear. We tell the girls that if they play with no fear then the winning will take care of itself."
The Trenton Tigers rolled into the New Town Gymnasium with a 12-1 record with their only loss coming to ranked Watford City. Trenton’s defense kept the Eagles quiet, but Rebekah Wells was able to toss in six points as New Town found themselves trailing 13-9 in the first quarter. The Eagles continued to trail through the second half by as many as nine points, but a three point shot by Tyleigh Brady with 17 seconds to go pulled the Eagles within two at the half, 24-22.
