Martial arts tournament set for Williston
Williston is about to have its 11th annual “open” martial arts competition that will be held on Saturday, April 4 in teh new middle school. Kempo, Shito Ryu, Shorin Ryu, Kung Fu, Tae Kwon Do, Shotokan and Gojo Ryu are some of the styles expected to be deomonstrated. In an open tournament all styles are welcome and everyone is encouraged to attend.
The divisions will be weapons, creative kata, board breaking, sparring, musical kata and team kata. The “Power Within” Martial Arts Group is sponsoring the tournament, and it will be the high school team’s main event for the season. However, all ages are competing.
A purse of $100 is being offered to the black belt sparring champion. This is always a highlight of the tournament.
“There will be something for everyone to watch and enjoy, even if they aren’t in the martial arts, said tournament sponsors Richard and Ann Breslin.
