It didn’t take long, 6 minutes to be exact, to find out who was going to win Monday night’s Fabulous 14 basketball finale.
That’s how long it took Tioga to score its first field goal, allowing New Town to score at will and go on to a 78-49 win over the Pirates.
New Town’s second consecutive victory set up a Tuesday night game against Parshall, who defeated Ray in an earlier game Monday night to also go to 2-0 on the young season.
Credit New Town’s defense or a terrible start for the Pirates, but outside of a three-point shot early in the game, it took the Pirates six minutes to finally get a field goal.
They ended the first with 10 but New Town was already up by 5 and never relinquished the lead. In fact, in each quarter the Eagles scored more points than in the previous quarter while the Pirates stagnated throughout the game.
In addition, New Town’s Preston Smith blocked at least three shots while Tioga was attempting to score which may have deflated Tioga’s motivation.
Even though New Town took the early lead, the first quarter was their poorest production. They nailed 19 in the second quarter to take a 34-24 lead into the half, but then added 21 in the third and 23 in the fourth to walk away with the win.
