New Town Eagles win district crown
Wolves, Braves Wildcats headed for regionals

The New Town Eagles scored victories over the Parshall Braves and Watford City Wolves to win the District 15 Boy Basketball Championship at the Northern Lights Community Center in New Town last weekend. The Wolves made it to the championship by besting the North Shore Plaza Wildcats in the semifinal.
Parshall and North Shore Plaza bounced back with victories over the White Shield Warriors and Mandaree Warriors to qualify for the Regional Tournament at Williston State College starting on Monday.
Parshall got the tournament started with a 76-65 comeback victory over White Shield. The Warriors scored 20 points in the first quarter to jump out to a six point lead over the Braves. In the second quarter the Braves went on a 27-7 run gave them a 14 point lead at the half and the Warriors were unable to close the gap after that. Monte Good Bird led the Braves with 30 points and Cameron Howling Wolf had 28 for the Warriors.
Parshall played New Town tough in the first half of the semifinal game, and trailed by just four points at the half. But the Eagles, led by Darryl Grady and Wayne Fox, were able to put the game out of reach after Good Bird got into foul trouble. Good Bird led the Braves with 21 points. Grady scored 25 and Fox added 17 for the Eagles.
North Shore Plaza won its opening game over the Mandaree Warriors 68-45. The Wildcats outscored the Warriors 27-7 in the first quarter and maintained that lead for the rest of the game. In their second game, the Wildcats came within inches of upsetting second seeded Watford City in the final seconds of their 56-54 loss. After trailing by as many as 14 points for much of the game, the Wildcats staged a furious comeback in the fourth quarter. A basket by Costas Kok pulled NSP to within two points of the Wolves at 49-51 with 1:39 left in the half. After an exchange of three point shots, Jacob Edwards tied the game at 54 with 16 seconds to go in the game. The Wolves Logan Fettig sealed the game with a bucket with just six seconds left and NSP couldn’t get their final shot to fall.
