New Town makes consolation title
During a long day of high school vollebyall tournament action played in Garrison Saturday, the New Town Eagles emerged with a sixth-place finish out of the eight pool teams in the tournament.
After winning another close contest to Parshalll through a tiebreaker in pool play, the Eagles went on to beat Our Redeemers of Minot in round one of the consolation 2-1 to set up a final against Powers Lake.
But Powers Lake proved too much for the Eagles and swept New Town 2-0.
“We began the tournament kind of flat,” said head coach Terry Mathson. “We did not play near capabilities in the morning’s pool play. We had our moments in the Our Redeemers game, but were inconsistent.”
Mathson said New Town hung in there, gradually improving and becoming more comfortable as the day progssed, despite being handily defeated by a strong Wells County team.
