Stanley bats down Makoti in counter

Makoti pitchers gave up seven total walks and Stanley used it to their advantage last Thursday in American Legion baseball. The Blue Jays scored seven unanswered runs to claim the 7-0 shutout. In the second game, the Mavericks fought back and earned the 11-3 win in five innings.
Stanley was aggressive right out of the gate as Makoti pitcher Jaren Enockson was forced into a jam in the second inning with runners on the corners. He fanned the side to save any runs but it left the young pitcher shaken.
Then in the fourth inning, Stanley loaded the bases on a pair of walks. The Blue Jays cracked the scoreboard on a beaned batter to go up and never look back. Another bases-loaded walk signaled the end of the night for Enockson.
Cade Karna took over but a wild pitch soon after made the score 3-0. Makoti got out of the inning as the pitcher settled down and a fly ball landed in the center fielder’s glove.
“I think we kind of fell apart there in the middle of the game and that’s how they got on the board more than we did,” coach Sonny Bozza said. “They capitalized on our errors.”
What hurt the Mavericks the most was the seven walks plus a few beaned batters that made the job of the Stanley battery too easy. In the fifth inning, the Blue Jays juiced the bases again. They added to their lead with a pair of passed balls.
