Stanley hosts county 4-H basketball tournament
The 33rd annual Mountrail County 4‑H Basketball Tournament brought lots of activity to the Stanley High School on March 28, as Mountrail, Ward, Williams, Divide and Burke County 4‑H members, leaders, families and supporters gathered for the event. Approximately 150 4‑H members played in the one‑day tournament consisting of 25 teams playing 40 games in five age divisions.
The annual tournament represents one of the more popular activities for the 4‑H members with youth from 5 to 18 joining in on the competitive fun. The tournament provides 4‑H supporters with some good exciting basketball action. Preliminary games began at 8:30 and continued throughout the day, with the final game wrapping up at 6:30 p.m.
Every member of the first-place team in each division received an award medal along with a ribbon with their placing. All other teams were awarded ribbons with their placing on them.
In the five-team Cloverbud Division (boys and girls 5‑8 years of age), the Blue Birds of Stanley placed first, the Clover Mix from Powers Lake, Tioga and Wildrose placed second, the Corner Club 1 from Williams County placed third, the Go-Getter Buds of Burke County placed foruth and the Mountrailsmen of Stanley, Berthold and Ross placed fifth.
In the four-team Junior Boys Division, the Pink Flamingos of Stanley and Ross placed first, the Mountrailsmen of Palermo, Blaisdell and Parshall placed second, the Dukes Mixture of Powers Lake, Plaza and Tioga placed third, the Go-Getter Guys of Burke County placed fourth.
In the eight-team Junior Girls Division, the Souris River Wranglers of Ward County placed first, the Junior Jays of Stanley and New Town placed second, the Dakota Challengers of Tioga placed third, the Mountrailsmen of Blaisdell, Stanley and Ross placed fourth, the Mud Dogs of Palermo, Stanley and Belden placed fifth, the Go-Getter Gals of Burke County placed sixth, the Clever Clovers/Buckaroos of Powers Lake and Williston placed seventh, and the Sweethearts of Parshall placed eighth.
