Eagles get first win of the season on home turf

New Town southpaw Lucas Wollschlager struck out 10 Kenmare batters Tuesday afternoon enroute to a thrilling 4-3 win over the Honkers.
It was New Town’s first win on the season after dropping a doubleheader Monday to Trinity Christian in Williston and it was Kenmare’s first game this year.
At times Wollschlager pitched like a World Series veteran, using a variety of pitches and speeds to strike out the side in the second and seventh innings. He walked six batters but threw a 3-hitter, all singles to Kenmare batters.
The Honkers took an early lead in the top of the first on a fielder’s choice but it didn’t last long as the Eagles countered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Nolan Davis walked, stole second and reached third on a pass ball. He later scored on a pass ball and Jesse Bear scored on a wild pitch.
Wollschlager allowed Kenmare’s leadoff batter to get into scoring position in the second but mowed down three consecutive Honkers to stymie any rally.
In the fourth inning with the score still 2-1 and Kenmare runners at second and third, Dan Weisenberg tried scoring on a pass ball but New Town catcher Sheldon Standish quickly reacted, got the ball back to Wollschlager who tagged Weisenberg out.
