2018 – The year in review

2018 – The year in review

Readers of the Underwood News and the McLean County Journal got a surprise when 2018 rolled around as they discovered the two newspapers had combined into one, now called the Central McLean News-Journal.
Noting that the newspapers’ readers shop regionally, socialize regionally and cheer on the same regional sports teams, BHG President Mike Gackle indicated that combining the newspapers into a regionally-focused newspaper seemed like a natural progression of the newspapers.
Throughout the year, the News-Journal reported on the area’s events and activities – the good, the better and the best, as well as the good, the bad and the ugly. For the next two weeks, the News-Journal will be highlighting some of the year’s top stories.

The Jan. 4 above-the-fold headline informed readers of the new regional newspaper, the News-Journal, which combined the McLean County Journal and Underwood News papers.
Turtle Lake-Mercer junior Trapper Jacobs scored his 1000th point on the basketball court in the Trojans’  victory over Grant County at the Mandan Holiday Tournament.
After starting 2018 with no coverage from the McLean County Sheriff’s Department, the Turtle Lake City Commission renewed its contract with the sheriff’s department after hearing from locals that they were afraid Turtle Lake would become a target for criminals following media coverage regarding the contract non-renewal.
