A social-distance homecoming

Welcome home . . . now stay home

The COVID-19 pandemic safety recommendations put the kibosh on any hopes Underwood’s Cindy Bjorge may have had about putting on a big welcome party for her husband
Mike, who on Saturday returned from a seven-month deployment in Qatar in the Middle East. A former member of the U.S. Navy and Navy Reserve, Mike is now serving in the Air Force Reserve, and was serving as a unit travel representative in Qatar. A couple weeks ago Cindy went to Facebook to reach out to locals and beyond in an effort to put together a welcome home surprise for Mike, asking people to make “welcome home Mike” signs and put them on their windows or in their yards so he would be able to see them when they took a drive around town. The locals, and even out-of-state friends and family, showed up big-time to support the Bjorges. Some of the signs were professional looking with
meticulously written letters, others obviously drawn by children. Some were on the small side with just a couple colors, while others took up the whole driveway with a colorful,
chalk-written welcome home.
