After 47 years, time for a change

There are a couple of things that will be sorely missed at Underwood Farm Supply – the faces of long-time owners Earl and Janice Cottingham. But other than that, not a whole lot should be changing, according to new owner Joe Nelson, of Nelson Family, LLC, of Casselton.

Even the name of the business is going to be pretty much the same, Underwood Farm Supply, with LLC added to the end.

While Earl and Janice may be taking this opportunity to do what retired people do, son Steve will be carrying on business as usual at "Farm Supply" as the store’s manager.

Earl and Janice said they started seriously thinking about selling the business some time within the last year. "The business is changing a lot," said Earl. "It’s hard to keep up with all the changes.

"It’s all electronic and big," said Earl. "It just seemed like now was the right time to think about selling the business."

Earl has been there since 1968, starting as a truck driver/delivery person when the business was Knudtson Implement. He went from there to "being a mechanic, from mechanic to parts, from parts to sales, and then to ownership," he said.
