Board members get pay increase

By Julie Arbach

Underwood School Board members voted a pay raise after finding they were not being paid comparable to area schools. Superintendent Dale Ekstrom said the board acted following a report from Business Manager Bobbi Jo Bartlett at the Jan. 17 regular school board meeting. The board had requested Bartlett survey area schools. "We found that Underwood was pretty low by comparison," said Ekstrom. "The board voted to pay board members $60 per meeting for attending a regular meeting and $40 per meeting for attending any committee meetings." Bartlett said the regular meeting pay increased from $50 and prior to the increase, board members were receiving no compensation for committee meetings. There are 13 regular meetings each year.
