Bringing Mexican menu to you

One of the area’s best-known cooks (through social media, anyway) is putting her cooking skills on demonstration as part of a fundraiser for Comet Kids Childcare, Inc., as Ramona Capps will be putting on a cooking demonstration Sunday, Feb. 22, from 2-4 p.m. at the Underwood City Hall.

Cost for the class is $20 per person, and many of the ingredients used in the cooking class, which will feature carnitas and pozole verde (both Mexican dishes), will be featured at Underwood’s Warehouse Grocery the following week.

Comet Kids board member Kellie Weisenburger says she’s excited to bring this event to the community.

Initially, she said, the daycare center was just thinking about seeing if Capps could be a sort of "celebrity chef" at one of the local restaurants, but then the idea of having her put on a demonstration at the city hall, where people attending could actually participate, seemed to be a better idea, so they booked the city hall for the demonstration.

Space is limited, so people are encouraged to register at the city hall with Auditor Diane Schell before the Feb. 15 deadline.

The demonstration is open to children (must be at least eight years old) and adults, although children ages 8-12 must have an adult to participate with.
