Build it and they will come

By Michael Johnson, Editor

Even before officially owning Quality Lumber in Underwood, Zac Hedstrom and his partners in Building Innovations had plans in the works for revamping how the business does business. Reciprocating saws were roaring and hammers pounding as a facelift was in the works the last two weeks in the store’s interior. Changes will allow Quality Lumber to show off more of its options for homeowners, with new samples of products for every room in the home. But the bigger changes taking place, at least for the community, are outside of the lumberyard. Hedstrom, president of Building Innovations along with Terry Stevahn, vice president, are using their partnership to attempt to bolster the community and economy by adding some new homes to Underwood. Crews broke ground on the first home south on 1st Street on Monday. The home will be valued at about $180,000. Another house is soon to follow, which will show off the many options that buyers now have to choose from. Hedstrom has a list of interested buyers. While many communities are losing residents and jobs, Hedstrom said he is seeking a second foreman to start another crew for the other house, bringing work and families to the community.
