There is something about a fresh cup of coffee and a good book that feels right at home in a library. For Turtle Lake Public Library Director Alexis Nienow, add a few new and familiar faces to the mix and it makes for a pretty good day.
“The smell of a fresh cup of coffee, a good book, and new and familiar faces to share them each with,” Nienow said. “What could make a better day?”
That simple combination captures much of what Nienow enjoys about the Turtle Lake Public Library and what she hopes people find when they come through its doors.
For those who may not have visited in a while, there may be more waiting inside than they expect.
The library maintains a flow of new and popular books that rotate through its collection, giving regular patrons something new to discover while also offering plenty for those who only stop by occasionally. Visitors can settle in with a cup from the library’s coffee station while looking for their next read.
Books remain at the heart of the library, but they are far from the only reason to make a visit.
Beginning in October, the library will add something a little more high-tech to its lineup with a new 3D printer club. The program will give participants an opportunity to learn the basics of 3D printing and see how an idea can be transformed into a physical object. Nienow said forms for the new club are available at the library.
The addition is one example of the variety of services patrons can find beyond the bookshelves. The library also offers DVDs, internet access and computers available for patrons to use.
There is even something for those who would rather spend an afternoon exploring outdoors. Among the library’s resources is a pass that lets patrons visit North Dakota state parks, something Nienow wishes more people knew was available.
