Children’s ministries key program at First Assembly

By Suzanne Werre, BHG News Service

Pastor Jason Buchmann of the First Assembly of God Church in Underwood is sure the reason some churches just fade away and disappear is because they stay too much within themselves, they don’t reach out. He doesn’t want that to happen to his church, so he and his congregation do their best to reach out into the community. Not only that, his, and his church’s focus is on the family and children. “There was no children’s ministry when we came here,” he noted. He and his wife Laura and four children came to Underwood in October of 2010. Now children and youth from all over come to take part in their weekly Kids Aflame PowerClub. The children also participated in VBS along with Faith Evangelical Church, and while several participated in the carnival at the City Hall on Halloween night, there was also Trunk or Treat going on outside the hall. Children of all faiths and from all churches and from no churches are invited to participate. The church is even starting to ramp up its children’s ministries by incorporating JBQ, Junior Bible Quiz, into its studies.  It’s a trivia contest that is designed to help children develop a love and knowledge of the Bible. This year, the children are just focused on learning and memorizing parts of the Bible. Next year, says Buchmann, Laura, who heads up the childrens ministries program at the church, is hoping to let the children get a taste of competition. “Her goal is to compete next fall, in 2013,” said Jason.
