City approves no-fluff budget

The Underwood City Commission approved the 2015 budget after making one amendment to the first reading, which will allow the city to a minimal mill levy increase.

No residents attended the meeting to ask questions or discuss the proposed budget.

"I’d like to see us keep our mills stay what they are," said commissioner Jay Snyder, noting that the city is already asking citizens to foot a large bill for a new floodwater project, and there is an anticipated hike in taxes for the school as well.

Commissioners decided to not appropriate $10,000 for the city’s emergency fund, which would allow the city to not have to raise the mills.

"Is there any fluff in here?" asked Snyder, as he looked through the budget.

The commissioners went through the budget fund-by-fund.
