City vote–bad dump will cost a C-note

Underwood is preparing to crack down on inappropriate dumping at the city shop when the annual city-wide clean-up is held the week of May 10.

At the most recent city commission meeting, the commissioners approved a $100 fine for anyone caught leaving items with Freon or electronic items at the dump site near the city building any time other than the designated time, which is Friday, May 9, from 1 to 5 p.m. A video camera will be recording the collection site to hopefully prevent anyone from dropping off unacceptable items, or dropping them off without paying the disposal fee. If it doesn’t prevent people from dropping off the items when they’re not supposed to, at least it will identify them so they can be sent a notice of their fine.

There will be a metal dumpster at the city shop collection site the week of May 10, where people can dispose of their old metal items, including stoves, ovens, washers, dryers, dish washers, water heaters, etc., free of charge.
