Civic Club talks about tweaking events

Much of Wednesday’s regular meeting involved scheduling the year’s upcoming events, with the Underwood Civic Club members discussing whether or not some events should be changed up or even eliminated.
The civic group is currently sponsors or is involved in 13 events throughout the year. The groups discussed whether that many events are needed.
The original goal when the civic club started putting on so many events was to try to have something every month, noted long-time civic club member Diane Schell.
Some events don’t have the draw they used to, agreed those at the meeting. The turkey drawing sees very few entries – some businesses get only a couple entrants -- and a lot of people don’t even realize it’s the civic club giving out the turkeys. Chairman Joe Fleischmann suggested the group could continue the giveaways, but change how the winners are determined. It was also noted more people might enter if the group gave away a ham instead as a lot of locals get turkeys from their workplaces.
The event that had the most change-up discussion was the Party in the Park, which featured a foam pit, kids’ games, a pie-eating contest and a community meal.
