The sale of Great River Energy’s McLean County power plant is set to finalize by May 1, as a permit transfer vital to the deal was approved this week.

The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission approved the transfer of a permit related to GRE’s high-voltage direct-current transmission system, a key component of a planned sale of Coal Creek Sale near Underwood. The permit transfer is one of the final steps of the plant’s sale to Rainbow Energy Center.

Transferring the permit from GRE to Nexus Line, which is set to purchase the transmission line in association with Rainbow’s acquisition of Coal Creek Station, opens the door for the sale to finalize in upcoming months.
