Coins stolen during burglary

A house west of Underwood was burglarized and another neighboring house showed signs of an attempted illegal entry Sept. 17, according to McLean County Detective Sam Lincoln.

The home of Sherwood Gibbs was burglarized some time between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, when Sherwood and his wife Patsy were gone from their home.

Entry was gained through an unlocked door, according to Lincoln.

Lincoln says an undetermined amount of old, collectible coins were taken from the home, as well as 800 feet of copper wire that was around the garage area.

Several more coins were left in the home, which Lincoln said was odd.

"They had been through the house," said Lincoln. They could have taken other things, but they didn’t, which is really strange, like other coins he had collected that were all over the place."
