Commission approves budget

By Julie Arbach

A city budget requesting $800 less than in 2008 was approved Monday night by the Underwood City Commission. Prior to approval of the 2009 budget, Commission President Rick Olson said there were some areas in the budget that he would like to see changed. He listed reducing the fuel oil and electrical increase of 25 percent and reducing the five percent budgeted for salary increases to what he said was a more realistic figure. City Auditor Diane Schell said that was just used as a figure because the commission still decides how much the increase will be for salaries. She added that building in a higher percentage works better than having to increase what was originally budgeted. Another area of concern, he said, was whether to reduce extra help hours and keep Tim Britton on over the winter.
