Commission OKs business ventures

By Alyssa Schafer, Editor

To show support for two Underwood business projects, city commissioners have OK’d significant funding. The approved funds will go toward the purchase of Quality Lumber and the renovation of the V&S Building. For each of these projects, applications were submitted last month for a $20,000 loan under the City’s Revitalization Fund and a request for grant money from the Sales Tax and Use Fund. Representatives of Underwood Commercial Property, Inc., (UCPI) applied for a $20,000 grant for the V&S Building renovation, while Quality Lumber, Inc., representatives requested $40,000 in grant funds for the purchase of Quality Lumber. All applications—two loans and two grants—were approved during Monday’s Underwood city commission meeting, but commissioners did insist that they need to know more details about the projects before the money is spent.
