Corn Pageant, Iron Man added, contestants needed

By Brenda L. Shelkey

Harvest Fest planners have decided to once again hold the Corn Pageant and Iron Man Contest during the Aug. 8 fest. Both events will be held under the tent beginning at 3 p.m. Because the event was just recently added to the agenda again, Harvest Fest is looking for contestants. The Miss Niblet Pageant will be for girls age five and under, and the Miss Cornucopia Pageant will be for girls age six to 10-years old. The Corn Pageant contestants will be judged on the corn costume, their presentation of a corny joke, along with their ability to husk corn and give their best hog call. The Junior Iron Man and Iron Man contestants will also be judged on their costume and will participate in corncob eating and corn husking competitions besides producing their best rendition of a hog call. The Iron Man contestants will be broken down into five and under for the junior competition and six to 10-year olds for the Iron Man competition. Contestants for the pageant and the contest can pre-register at the tent at 2:50 p.m. the day of Harvest Fest. Organizers of the kiddie, tween and adult quests have much of the organization of the quests completed. The need for volunteers to run each of the stations on the day of the events is one of the issues that needs to be finalized.
