The Underwood girls basketball program will not be the same next season.

For more than two decades, Toni Cottingham has often simply been called "Coach."

Adding "Cottingham" to the end of it wasn’t necessary – everybody knows who "Coach" is.

After 21 years as head coach of the Underwood Comets girls basketball team, Cottingham recently announced her resignation as head coach.

After 23 years as part of the Comet girls program, 21 of them as head coach, making 17 appearances at the regional tournament, Cottingham has decided to retire to spend more time on family, especially focusing on her son Zach’s upcoming senior year of athletics.

She admits that making the decision, talking it over with her family, wasn’t made lightly, and there were plenty of tears.
