County speedway races moving to Thursdays

McLean County racing fans never fear. As Mark Twain might say, the demise of the McLean County Speedway has been greatly exaggerated.

That’s pretty much what McLean County Speedway President Beau Simmons is saying – whoever may be thinking or saying that the McLean County Speedway isn’t going to be letting their engines roar and race around the track this summer is mistaken.

Simmons, newly-elected president of the McLean County Speedway Association, says he was visiting with business people earlier this year, trying to drum up some sponsors for the race track this summer, when he had a couple of the business owners mention, "We were told there wasn’t going to be racing out at the track this year," said Simmons.

"But I don’t know where that came from – they are incorrect," he continued.

Granted, last season didn’t have as many races as there have been in the past, but Simmons says there’s a pretty full line-up of racing already scheduled for the speedway this year, featuring IMCA sport mods, IMCA stock cars, IMCA hobby stocks and Legends.
