The students and staff of Turtle Lake-Mercer School are joining together to support one of their own, and they’re hoping folks from around the area will join with them.
A raffle benefit fundraiser is being held at the Turtle Lake-Mercer School this Friday when the Trojans host Washburn in a double-header hoops match-up at the Ed Rath Auditorium in Turtle Lake. The organizers of the event, Elsa’s Crew, are hoping to raise funds for Elsa Ravnaas, a Turtle Lake-Mercer kindergarten student who recently underwent a heart transplant at a Minneapolis Hospital.
Elsa’s Crew has been working to bring in a variety of items for the raffle benefit, noted one of the event organizers, Sheila Schlafmann. One of the items they suspect will be a popular item is a pair of diamond earrings, she noted. But there is a wide variety of items that will be up for raffle, including several different gift baskets as well as gift certificates.
The fundraiser is not a silent auction, she noted. It is a raffle in which people will be able to buy raffle tickets for the different items, place their tickets in the bins for the different items, with one winner chosen from each of the bins. The tickets are for $1 for the baskets and $5 for the large items.
Elsa’s Crew is hoping to be able to help out with the costs the Ravnaas family has incurred with Elsa’s recent transplant surgery, and the recuperating time that will be needed at her new temporary home in Minneapolis.
Elsa’s mom Sara says Elsa is doing very well since her surgery on Nov. 19.
