For the love of God, potatoes

For the love of God, potatoes

"For the love of gardening” joined with “for the love of God” this past week, resulting in free potatoes for those in need courtesy of a gentleman farmer who lives out by Birka Church, and the 7th and 8th-grade confirmation students at Augustana and Birka Lutheran Churches.
The church youth, a few parents, and Deacon Jodi Lorenz hopped on a bus this past Wednesday and made their way to potato farmer Gary Reimers’ place near Birka, where they planned to load up about 250 pounds of potatoes that Reimers wanted to donate to whomever needed them.
“I really don’t know where we’re going to put all those potatoes when we get them home tonight,” said Lorenz as she prepared for Wednesday’s potato picking.
The plan was to wash them up at the church, have a meal starring the guest of honor, and eventually bag them up for delivery to the local food pantries in Underwood and Washburn, as well as individuals who have let the youth group know they’re interested in a free bag of potatoes.
