Gearing up for Relay For Life

Cancer stinks. And that’s putting it lightly.

The McLean County Relay for Life organizers are doing what they can to help snuff out cancer before it takes away anyone else’s loved one. The annual Relay for Life walk is scheduled for Friday, June 13 at the Underwood School/Comet Field in Underwood.

"We really need to get some people starting some teams," said event chairman Renee Fransen of Coleharbor. It’s going to take some doing for the groups to raise the goal of $55-60,000 this year, as they hope to surpass last year’s total raised of $53,000.

Fransen thinks the goal of about $60,000 is absolutely within reach of the county’s teams. While there are several other worthy causes that need donations, she notes, everyone knows somebody who has either had cancer, currently has it, or has at least been touched by it.

Fransen is hoping for about 25 teams from the county, but right now there are only three signed up, so she’s hoping more teams will sign up soon so the fundraising can begin.
