The cost of repairs has yet to be determined, but the damage to Grimsley’s Fuel and Convenience was extensive after an Underwood man lost control of his vehicle in the early morning Thursday, driving off the roadway and hitting the northwest end of the convenience store.
Damage to the store includes damage to the heat pump, structural damage and electrical damage to the building.
Video footage at Grimsley’s confirmed Meier’s vehicle leaving the roadway and striking the building just before 2 a.m. Thursday. Sparks were also observed during the striking of the building when the vehicle departed.
Twenty-one-year-old Michael Meier, Jr.  of Underwood was cited for careless driving, duty upon striking highway fixture or other property and careless driving.
According to the McLean County Sheriff Department report, Meier said that he panicked after hitting the building and left the scene, not exiting the vehicle, but driving to his home instead.
