Heger Farms creates ‘Seeds of Hope’ scholarships

Katie and Steven Heger of Heger Farms in Underwood have established two scholarships for agriculture students at Dickinson State University. Students are selected based upon an emphasis on GIS or soils and their involvement in ag clubs and organizations. Steven Heger graduated in 2000 from DSU with degrees in farm and ranch management and ag sales and service. He was an Academic All-American and First Team All-Conference selection during his career as an offensive lineman for the Blue Hawk football team and was honored as an Alumni Fellow during DSU’s 2010 Homecoming festivities.  Katie Heger received her undergraduate degree in elementary education from Concordia College, a special education credential from Minot State University and completed her Master’s studies in elementary administration at the University of Mary. She currently works at the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction, in addition to doing the Heger Farm record and bookkeeping. The Hegers believe that the use of technology is a vital part of increasing efficiency and productivity on their third generation Underwood farm. They are active in various organizations, including the Falkirk Farmer’s Elevator Board, McLean County Farm Bureau Board, and the Young Farmer and Rancher’s State Farm Bureau Committee. In addition, they have made presentations at the National Association of State Departments of Ag annual meeting and have also been featured in the Minot Daily News and the Farm & Ranch Guide.
