Mercer sets special meeting for annual budget

The city of Mercer will hold a special meeting in September to discuss the proposed annual budget.
The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Mercer City Hall.

General fund
According to the drafted proposed budget, which can be found on the city’s website, the total amount planned to be levied for the general fund in 2026 is $20,523.10 through an estimated max of 105 mills and an estimated taxable valuation at $195,467.
Additionally, the proposed intergovernmental revenues are estimated at $14,180. This funding is projected to come from:
beer and liquor license $500
building permits $50
state aide distribution $10,500
oil and gas production $1,500
cigarette state tax $180
coal conversion $2,000
The city of Mercer is also estimating an additional $20 in interest income and $6,000 in donations, bringing the total revenue to $20,750.
Looking at the expenditures, the city is expecting about $41,535, which would leave the city with a project deficit of $20,785. Because there was a balance of $261.90 in the fund as of Jan. 1, the projected deficit drops down to $20,523.10.
