Monster of the Missouri
As Halloween approaches, thoughts often turn to ghosts, monsters and mysterious creatures said to lurk in the shadows.
Most people have heard of Bigfoot. Many know the Loch Ness Monster.
Far fewer know that North Dakota has a legendary creature of its own.
Its home isn't a dark forest or a distant Scottish lake.
According to generations of Indigenous tradition, it lived in the Missouri River.
