The weather outside was frightful, but talk about gardening plots, farmers markets, pallet gardens and warm weather activities were on the minds of about a dozen Underwood residents at the Underwood Area Economic Development Corporation annual meeting Monday evening.

The meeting was a chance to review the goals of the community and activities during the year, as well as to look toward 2014. Tyler Demars, economic development director, said the capital and economic impact for the year’s efforts were valued at approximately $1 million, including the value of two new homes. The economic development efforts are credited with creating or saving six jobs.

The group is working under a set of goals, including bringing five new families to Underwood a year, beautifying the community, developing pride, partnering with the school and expanding the retail, recreational and human services.
